He has previously cited Nirvana, Guided By Voices, Prince, Darwin Deez, & The Strokes amongst his biggest influences.

BIG SIERRA BIO

Big Sierra is an indie/alternative rock band primarily located in central California. Drawing inspiration from acts such as Young the Giant and Alvvays, the bands sound is heavily focused on bright guitar chords, melodic bass lines, and soaring falsetto vocals.

The Holdup is the musical project of Michael Garmany. Coming from San Jose, CA, he has built a cult following writing and producing his own brand of groovy, melody driven, pop music, borrowing influences from R&B, reggae, and hip-hop. Often mistaken for a group, The Holdup has been a one-man labor in the studio, with Garmany writing, producing, performing and engineering everything you hear on his albums. His catchy hooks and unapologetic lyrics have helped him sell out mainstay venues, such as The Roxy & El Rey Theatre, across the U.S. as well as clock in over 150+ million worldwide streams and counting…

Join Channel Frequencies in welcoming Two Headed Girl, Paper Boats, and Spoingus at Libertine on Thursday February 13th.

TWO HEADED GIRL BIO

"Good Charlotte. Tegan and Sara. Now, Angie and Celeste.
Under Two Headed Girl, the Connecticut twins have continued the tradition in their self-proclaimed “twincore”, all the while exploring uncharted territory. Their full-length debut, “Media Naranja”, out on April 1st, explores the intersection of their queerness, their Puerto Rican heritage, and the tumultuous life experience called “living in Connecticut.” Beyond the reaches of emo, math rock, and punk, they meld together the frenetic noodling of Fall of Troy, the introspective pop of Rilo Kiley, and the fuzz-laden confessionals of Julie Doiron and their band’s namesake. The kind of record that’s just as apt for screaming along in the car with your friends as it is for cathartic wallowing alone. Let it soundtrack the teen soap of your life."

Folk Yeah Presents: Freak Slug + Huron John

Freak Slug Bio:

Instagram | Spotify | Facebook

A visual artist and painter as well as an unconventional, self-taught songwriter and musician, everything that fuels the creative output of Manchester’s Xenya Genovese, AKA Freak Slug, is about raw, authentic, sometimes weird but always totally true self-expression. She’s not one to sugar coat things; “I’m a lot, so it’s a lot to show who I am because some people might not like it,” she accepts. But in amongst the mix of an introverted extrovert, self described “avoidant” Leo rising, lives the sort of musician who can do nostalgic, ‘90s influenced and dreamy as well as eccentric and experimental. Down there, picking through the curious mix of sounds and feelings, lives Freak Slug

Hugely influenced by ‘90s cult heroes like Ride and Mazzy Star, Freak Slug is all about hitting a mood. A big, vocal character IRL, Genovese acknowledges that, when it comes to more internal matters, she finds life less easy. “I struggle to feel, in all honesty; music that moves me is the only way that I can feel sometimes. So if I can make something that makes me feel things, that’s cool cos I don’t get that opportunity often, and if I can make other avoidant people feel things, that’s cool too.” She laughs: “I’ve got the energy, I don’t need to listen to fucking drum ‘n bass. I’ve already got that!”

Huron John Bio:

Instagram | Spotify | TikTok

Huron John evolves. A 24-year-old multimedia artist from Chicago, Illinois now based in Nashville, Tennessee, Huron provides a new layer of definition to the “do-it-yourself” indie standard. Entirely producing, writing, and engineering a now multi-album discography, the project’s genre-defying sounds proudly shapeshift into a rainbow-spectrum of moods and flavors. Using a wholesomely grassroots approach to independently amass over 35 million listens worldwide, they have carefully supplemented album rollouts with a multimedia angle including physical art books, interactive experiences, and most recently a full-length film premiered in theaters across select cities. Utilizing a ‘mystery-ridden online persona’ (-MTV) and a ‘day-tripper sound that delivers glitch juxtaposed with groove’ (-Ones To Watch), a mesmerizing melting-pot of alternative, electronic & sound-collage are delivered with ease.

LEVITATION ROOM BIO

Psychedelic quartet Levitation Room build a cosmic wall of sound with dreamy guitars and an alternative dreamgaze flavor.—

East Los Angeles quartet Levitation Room’s floaty, cosmic songs are always a trip. Since forming nearly a decade ago, they’ve self-produced dizzying, otherworldly music that’s connected with fellow travelers in the hallucinogenic world of outré rock music. Led by singer and guitarist Julian Porte along with founding members Gabriel Fernandez (lead guitar) and Johnathan Martin (percussion), the band has enchanted live audiences at Desert Daze and on tour with like-minded groups Post Animal and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.

The band’s vivid sound has found them placed on popular playlists like Modern Psychedelia and the legendary superproducer’s Danger Mouse Jukebox. Their 2015 debut, “Friends,” has surpassed 18 million streams. Joined by new member Kevin Perez (bass) in 2021, Levitation Room have continued to expand their colorful, unearthly sound, a process that has culminated with the vibrant new album Strange Weather. Collaborating with former Brian Jonestown Massacre keyboardist Rob Campanella, Jason Kick (Mild High Club), and Black Crowes’ Joel Robinow, Levitation Room take a new step in their story and vision with Strange Weather. The record’s lyrical narratives—about love in the park, life in the city, and the fact that “The world today is such an illusion”—are appropriately steeped in ’60s sonics and a dreamy, lo-fi atmosphere. It’s spacey, celestial guitar music for escaping into, and “it feels just like heaven.”

YASAWA GROUP BIO

Matt Taylor co-founded The Growlers just past the turn of the century, and that was an immense force in the bellowing sound of the great American west. And maybe the Growlers did get too close to the sun but making guitar based pop music from California is to have to stare straight into all that glimmers and fades away. You have to answer to and show up at the Dick Dale Stomp or a Suicidal Tendencies’ circle pit, maybe an Eden Ahbez’s prayer circle and be back stage at No Doubt. The Growlers did this and beyond and now have their place in that long lineage.

But this is not that. This is YASAWA Group that we speak of, so let’s get that out of the way. Yasawa, the opening salvo of the Fijian lexicon's fifteen words for heaven. This is the  Spoiled Milk And Honey fable of a Contemporary Musical Record in the early part of the 21 st century. This is the alternate soundtrack to the un-scheduled remake of ToLiveAndDieinLA, the pack of coyotes night howl, the train yards past Vernon, the sea gulls crying in the grime of a mid day white washed by the thin sky of the Anthropocene, the millions of gas pipes burning as the wind rustles over the rat shit wrapped in palm fronds.  Is it blasphemous to speak poorly of the sun ?
